general craftiness

So this is a little delayed... it was a busy week/weekend. As I said in my last post one of my awesome friends is letting me use her old ipod which has been a huge help and motivator while I am at the gym. I decided to pay the generosity forward (Again, I have just never understood that phrase) and made some little crafts for my friend. They were just silly little things that I have been wanting to make and possibly sell at this years craft fair. The ones I made were definitely first attempts which I feel bad for, but will improve as I make more.

monsters!
I saw these on an etsy store, originally found on pinterest, and thought they were pretty cute. I am going to make more of my own original design monsters just to not completely plagiarize someone else's idea. Especially if I decide to sell them. These are about 2 inches tall. In my defense, it would appear I did make them differently and mine were not a broach. I am happy to say she liked them and wants me to make some larger, stuffed ones for her niece. I am excited to get those started (and finished) today so I can get them to her FAST.

Other things going on in my craft world is a doll that I have been wanting to try for a while. This is also something I would like to offer at the craft fair and wanted to see what kind of labor was involved. It is pretty straight forward but things like turning out the arms and legs take time since I wanted to make smaller dolls. Smaller dolls = teeny tiny little arms = IMPOSSIBLE to turn out to stuff. I still like the size and will just have to deal with it. I want it to be small enough to justify a cheaper price which will be more enticing for parents/grandparents to go ahead and buy. Also it is a better fit for little hands. I am thinking of doing the small dolls for girls and stuffed monsters for boys. That is not to say you couldn't get a doll for a boy or monster for a girl, but you know.. I don't want to deal with the extra work of making a boy doll so monsters is the next best "gender specific" alternative.

dolly! about 8-9"
There are obvious improvements that need to be made. I didn't get the arms sewn in right initially so they ended up unaligned and in a permanent "yay!" pose. Not a big deal, but I'd rather they were out or down as opposed to up. Also, I noticed one leg is longer than the other by about a 1/2". Other than that, not terrible. I need to perfect my slip stitch also so the hair doesn't look funky. I think they have potential.

I finally decided on a name for any and all intensive 'business' purposes and even ordered some free/cheap business cards from vistaprint. Drum roll.... Striking Stitches! Yay for alliteration and name that hasn't yet been taken (at least in the US, so there is technically a small embroidery business in Australia called Striking Stitches. But, let's face it... I'm not exactly going global or bug business so I don't think it will be a problem.

In non-craft related news...I weighed myself yesterday and was happier with a 1.3 pound loss for the week. Still not ideal or where I think I could be for a week but better than the previous. Plus we need to take into account I am sure I lost around 3 that first week of really buckling down. Only 2 pounds to go before I am where I was down to over the summer (and my lowest since I got pregnant with Lilly) and 7 pounds from my goal for the end of February. Surely I can manage that. I do need to start pushing myself more at the gym by doing some weight lifting and more intervals of running on the treadmill.

So last night I was giving Lilly a bath while Paco was changing Edison and getting him ready to join the Lilly. I was rinsing her hair so she was primarily on my left. I suddenly felt warm water on my right leg and was wondering how the heck I was spilling bath water when there was no splashing and it was on my right. That is when I looked to my right and saw a very naked Edison that Paco had released to come in for his turn. Yep. Well, you know I was just thinking it has been a little while since I was peed on. Sigh. I had just washed my jeans too. At least he got it out of his system right before bed, right?
