Cookie Dough

Okay, so we all know I'm terrible at actually following through with a post when I say I am going to post one. Let's just keep this in mind and remember it if I ever say I am going to post something at a specific time.

Anyway... the recipe I mentioned in my last post was for a "healthy" cookie dough. I have actually been really good about watching my sweets and indulgences the past few weeks. I went to a birthday party, I didn't eat the cake, and the very next day I could have had some form of cake or cookie and once again, I refrained. It's not that I was getting edgy or anything but when everyone and their mother is pinning tempting and delicious looking recipes on pinterest it starts to wear on a person. SO when someone posted this one for a healthy cookie dough and I had all of the ingredients I went for it. So.. mine looks like this:

It made about 2.5 cups. It uses chick peas, limited sugar, NO flour or butter and a form of nut butter (I used good old peanut butter). So I added up all of these things and for the whole batch there are 1500 calories. If you're really watching your calories and want to just sit down and eat this it really still isn't the best thing for you. Say you can actually manage to down a half a cup at once, that is 300 calories of the empty variety. Well, I should rephrase that...this DOES pack some serious protein. Thanks to the chick peas and peanut butter there are around 40 grams of protein in the whole batch. Divide by 5 'servings' and 8 grams is still doing pretty good for something like this. The other thing to keep in mind for a health standpoint is that if you used, say 1 1/2 sticks of butter and 2 cups of flour instead of the chick peas you're looking at 1200 calories just in those two ingredients.

Moral of story this is if you MUST have something indulgent this really isn't too bad. You can't taste the chick peas and the texture is pretty good after you add the oats.

ALSO I just want to say FINALLY!!!! I weighed myself this morning and lost 3.1 pounds last week. Holy Cow and Thank the Lord.. I was getting pretty perturbed that I haven't lost what I consider an acceptable amount of weight in a week. Again, I don't expect to lose heaps but I really think a 2 pound per week loss is completely manageable and safe. Maybe it was all that protein from the cookie dough I chomped... yeah...
