Tonight we are going out to dinner with my dad and step-mom for my birthday. I was afraid we were going to have to postpone due to Lilly's cough, but she seems to be doing it less often and feeling better. You just cant win with kids. Spring and Summer can just not get here soon enough. I am SO excited this year for it because we will really be able to get out a lot. Edison will be at an age where he will want and be able to explore so it will be manageable. I can only imagine what he will get into. I think I'll put poison controls number in my phone now as a precaution...
Thinking ahead to outdoor activities.. I am trying to decide if I want to go ahead and get some play sand this year. We have a turtle sandbox but I have never put sand in it because I just dread the thought of the mess it will create. At the same time I remember being occupied for HOURS outside in my own sandbox and I thoroughly believe dirt and mess is the best thing young kids can experience.
I also want to start planning my garden. I want to make better use of the side of the yard that is on the slope and plant some vegetables there. I need to take careful consideration to the erosion possibilities and figure out what will grow best in the space. I need to build a trellis for my cucumber and peas I think. Those would probably be best at the bottom of the hill in the flat spots. The rest I will do a stair step raised fashion for some beets, carrots, green beans and lettuce. My current garden space will continue to be used for tomatoes, peppers, and then herbs. It will definitely free up space so they have more room to grow.
One thing I really wish we could do is build a new deck. We desperately need a new one because the current one is falling apart on all sides and underneath and there is a crack in the foundation of the house under the deck. With drywall on the inside the only way to repair it is to either take that down or go in from the other side, which like I said, requires destruction of the deck. I wish they weren't so expensive to replace. I am fearful the kids will get hurt on it though with as much as I would love to be out there this year.
