getting back at it

I think the main reason I haven't been blogging lately is because I don't have a real defined direction of the blog. I have considered changing the tag line so that it isn't just another 'mommy blog'. Let's face it, I don't have anything overwhelmingly exciting to share in that world. Okay, I suppose technically I could fill quite a bit of space with our daily adventures, but some days would be far more exciting and insightful (respectively) than others. Honestly I should look into those blog tab things and have 4 different blogs in one! I would have the crazy mommy category, craft projects, weight loss adventure, and miscellaneous thoughts.

Anyway I suppose until I get to be really good with all computer jargon to figure that out I will just have to settle with dividing it all out in paragraphs.  SO...

Mommy-ness: Edison is officially crawling. Really he has been since about his 10 month birthday but as we all know, I haven't been in the blogosphere! He is hilarious because he will get up on all 4's, hop a couple of times without moving forward, then he will lower his legs and do some kind of mock army crawl. I suppose he isn't technically crawling crawling, but he does get up on all 4's and move a bit. AND it doesn't take him an time at all to get from the living room to the kitchen or from across the room to my computer power cord! grrrr.
In Lilly world we have been doing a lot of outdoor and water stuff in this ridiculous heat. When Edison takes his mid-morning nap we go outside and PLAY. She always wants to be outside. I need to set up a tent and try sleeping out in that with her one night... when it isn't 110 at 10 pm still :-) She is also doing dance lessons and after 3 classes she is FINALLY making me a little less apprehensive about going. The first class she literally ran around the room. She also ran over to the barre and poised her leg in a peeing dog stance because that is what ballerina's do after all. I pretended she wasn't mind. The second class she didn't run around the room, she crouched on the floor and scooted backwards on her hands and knees. I became very interested in a piece of art on the wall. The 3rd class Paco took her and she did great. [teeth grinding]. She still had her moments but at least she listened for the most part and wasn't spastic. I was seriously considering getting her checked for ADHD! Tonight I am happy to report she was attentive and did what she was supposed to and the only annoyance is that she wants to be the first to do everything and doesn't understand the concept of waiting in line. I figure this is forgivable since really it is the first classroom setting she has ever been in.

Let's see what was next... crafts! I still need to take pictures of the wine cork key chains I made for my wine themed craft fair table (for November). But I have done some other things with my time. I will spare the details and just post pictures. The skirt was for me, the curtains are finally done for Edison, my friend Amanda is having a baby and she is the only other cyclone in the group so I HAD to do something extra special.

On the weight-loss front I am pretty proud of myself. I was going to wait for some big announcement on Thursday when I will hit a 20 pound loss mark but I will be well on my way to the lake before I would be able to post about it and I probably wont have Internet access up there. SO I am officially down 18.5 pounds from when I started May 24th. Yay! I am so happy that I am actually accomplishing goals. It's not that I didn't think I could, but I have gotten into such dark places in regards to my weight and have made excuses for myself and really the amount I want to lose just seems to steep and impossible. With a near 20 pound loss in just 2 months it suddenly seems achievable. I do think I am reaching an uphill battle now though. The general understanding is that the more you weigh the faster you lose it. So now that I am a little lighter I imagine I will plateau and need to think of different ways to get the pounds off.  With that said I still don't think it looks much like I have lost anything. Grudgingly I will post a picture from the end of May and one from.. I don't know, last week. So it is kind of visible but I think I need to get some ab workouts or side workouts or pretty much anything to get rid of my gut. oh, and my 5 chins...

Now speaking of ab workouts... On Friday I managed to pick up my chunk of a son out of his exersaucer and then I felt a nice *pop* in my lower back. It hasn't stopped hurting. awesome. I went to the doctor today and he said they really don't do x-rays or MRI's unless you are old, fell, or show some specific red flags. Since I didn't exhibit any of these he just loaded me up on some pain killer and muscle relaxer medications and I have to wait 6 weeks to see if the pain has gone away or gets worse before that time. In the mean time my sit up routine is definitely put on hold. I cant even pull myself up unassisted if I am lying down let alone doing repetitive sit ups. I have still been doing my walks, yes even in the ridiculous heat, but I wish I could do more. I definitely feel like a putz if I don't do my walks now. It's amazing how quickly things can feel routine and just good!

Well, I think that is about it for now. We are headed to the lake on Thursday through Tuesday so hopefully we can manage the kids and the dog up there with a very crowded cabin!
