Physical Therapy

Edison's PT went pretty well today. It was his first session so the therapist did a lot of tests based on a point system to see where he was developmentally. Based on his adjusted age he was 50%-ile for one test and 65%-ile for another. So all in all he is doing really pretty well. After all of the tests she said that she thought Edison was right on track, albeit a little slower than some kids, but should catch on to the whole crawling thing and standing on his tip toes. She said she thinks he has some hip weakness. It explains both the scooty crawl and the tiptoes. By standing on his tip toes he locks his knees and legs in place and therefore has more stability. Luckily she seemed really positive about where he is. She gave me some papers showing things we can work on at home and then will go back in 2-3 weeks. At that point if he is doing better then she'll see him once more in another 2-3 weeks to see that it keeps up. If he isnt showing much improvement then he will probably see her more regularly.

She did make one interesting comment that I think I may have to look into. She asked is we were doing any PT or OT through the grantwood area private program. I said no and she said it was always an option.  I am pretty sure they do some in-home stuff so I wonder if that would be a good option for Edison and his eating. We would still go to Witwer because I think that would help. It has only been 4 days and we need to refer back to that patience thing but I am afraid already that Edison is taking some steps forward but others back. I have given him some of those yogurt melts things to him on his lip and he can sense it and moves it further in his mouth with his hand which is a great improvement. Also I have been more proactive about making him realize he needs to hold his own bottle if he wants to eat. It will drop, he gets all pissy and cries, then he realizes he can grab it and hold it there until he gets lazy lets go and repeats the process. Lazy kid.

While he has had those going well he also has some instances where I sit him in the high chair and he just cries. I dont see this as the best situation since it just associates eating with negativity. I figure if he starts off tomorrow on a bad note I will call his OT and see what she suggests.

Other than that for today we had a WIC appointment since Edison shouldn't get it anymore. Well he doesn't but apparently Lilly keeps getting the checks until her birthday. So that is kindof an unexpected bonus. Milk and eggs and stuff have gotten ridiculously expensive so that will be pretty awesome. Of course, I cant eat eggs anymore so I dont really go through them that fast. I guess I could do more baking, but that wont help out with the losing weight ambition.

Between OT, PT, Lilly dance, WIC appt, and a bunch of other stuff going on this week has been crazy and it just seems like it will stay that way for at least the next couple of months. I need a vacation!

  1. why can't you eat eggs anymore? I don't know what I'd do without eggs since I don't eat alot of meat!

  2. yeah no kidding. It was always our standby meal.. omelets.. especially with FRESH veggies from the garden to add. So annoyed. It is because of the Metformin I take because of the PCOS. A lot of women with PCOS that have to take it complain they cant have eggs or lettuce ever again. I dont know what it is about it but yeah, I keep trying them... it keeps REALLY not agreeing with me.
